Our Cute Class  2009-2010

  We have been working hard in Second Grade.  We have studied plants, maps and globes, weather, and we are starting communities.  In math We have worked on graphing, place value, numbers to 1000 and adding mixed coins to one dollar (ouch! That is hard for many).  We have begun adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers with regrouping. And will soon be moving on to 3 digit numbers.  This has been a difficult process for many, so please give your child lots of extra practice time for this new skill. In Language arts we continue to study possessive singular and plural nouns and verb tenses.  We have been learning about summarizing what we read and then writing about it.  I would like to encourage the children to do this in their home journals as well.   The students need to continue to read, write and work on their sight words and math flash cards everyday.  Our congratulations and thanks goes to all the children that performed in our 2nd grade talent show.  What wonderful talent we have at Spring Creek!  

As many of you know, our district has adopted the Treasures reading program. I would like to continue to encourage parents to go to the Treasures website to find online activities for your child to use at home.
